The Giving of Thanks

“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say it: Rejoice!”

Thanksgiving morning has a little different feel to it when you are across the ocean from family and in a land of people that don’t celebrate the holiday. However, my joy and thankfulness seem to be enhanced rather than replaced with loneliness and sadness. Being away from family reminds you just how much they mean to you and how special they are. I think we often take the true meaning behind Thanksgiving for granted and get lost in the eating frenzy and football fanatics. Sometimes the preparation of the meal or accommodating guests raises the stress levels and makes it hard to fully enjoy everything and everyone surrounding you.

Today, I hope that you look at your close friends and family and realize that they are a gift from God. Remember how they have blessed your life. Remember the joys and laughter and cherish the memories that are being made. Be thankful that although they may not help out as much as you’d like them to and would rather watch the kick-off of the game or take a nap than clean up after the meal you slaved over they are by your side today making memories with you. Cherish each moment, don’t worry about the meal or making sure everyone is having a good time; fully live in today and dwell in the blessings that God has given you.

My life is full and my joy is complete; I thank God that He has brought me so many wonderful people in my life. May He bless you on this wonderful day.

Happy Thanksgiving.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.“ ~ Philippians 4: 4-7
